The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) has finished its oral evidence sessions on abattoir provision in the U.K. The interest in this inquiry has been extensive and the next stage is drafting a report with a set of key recommendations for the DEFRA Secretary of State to review. The report is timely now as it considers animal welfare throughout the whole process of slaughter including transport and seeks to connect the farm to folk ambition with Government policy post Brexit. We believe there is a real opportunity to improve farm animal welfare and to ask the consumer to engage in the process of meat production by supporting the rural economy, British farmers and high animal welfare.
